Welcome to our Christmas page! Here you will find information about our Christmas services, and the truth behind the story of Christmas.
Did you know..?
The popular nativity story, involving “no room at the inn” is a big misconception! Bethlehem was a tiny village, it would have had no inn, especially as Jewish culture is to take visitors (even if strangers) into their home to offer hospitality. The word translated as “inn” actually means ‘spare room’ – which makes much more sense. Joseph was taking Mary to the hometown of his family, meaning they were visiting relatives! However, the Roman Census order, brought so many people to town, there were no spare sleeping areas by the time Mary and Joseph arrived – so they slept downstairs with the animals.
In the 1st century, animals were very precious, and were kept inside the home if possible to prevent them being stolen, but also because the extra body heat helped keep the house warm (no central heating in those days!)
